Full House at the Trotec Laser Workshop @ Fab Lab London

The first in a series of Trotec Laser workshops at Fab Lab London was a great success, with a full house turning out to learn how to cut leather, wood, acrylic and paper on the Speedy 300.

South East representative Andy, who has years of experience in the field led the workshop, which was limited to just 20 people to ensure all attendees were able to take part in an up close tutorial, enabling them to come and use Fab Lab's Speedy 300 for their own creative projects.

We cut a series of leather luggage tags, demonstrating how altering the settings of the laser can obtain different finishes to the material. Check out a video on our Facebook page.

The trademark Trotec Laser arrows led the way to the Fab Lab workshop.

This was the first in a series of workshops. Keep an eye on the Trotec Laser UK events page for upcoming master classes. If there are any workshops you would like to see available please let us know by emailing lucy.hall@troteclaser.com

Trotec's Speedy 300 is available to rent now at Fab Lab London. Visit their website to book your slot.

Dyffryn Taf Dragons Roar to Success with Trotec Laser

Team Dragon from Dyffryn Taf School in Wales have had a roaring success in the Greenpower International Finals as they scooped the Best Newcomer Award with their Trotec Laser electric car. Overall the school finished 10th in the competition, with the electric car which had elements constructed by the pupils with their Trotec Laser, an amazing achievement for their first time in the finals.

Find out more about the benefits of a Trotec laser for schools, colleges and universities.

Dyffryn Taf is an award-winning Comprehensive School in Whitland, Carmarthenshire. Founded in the 19th century as a small grammar school, it has expanded to approximately 900 pupils today.

In June 2013 the school invested in a state-of-the-art Speedy 400 laser system. Their 80W CO2 model has a 1000 x 610mm working area and can process a wide range of materials, from wood and plastics to textiles and paper.

The school has a 100% pass rate in GCSE Resistant Materials, with all pupils attaining a A*-C grade, putting the school among the elite in this subject across the entire country.

We asked Kevin Abel at the school to tell us about their laser system.

Versatility

"It's great! It's so versatile that we can use it across all of our departments, including design technology, resistant materials, electronics and arts".

Quality

"We decided to go with Trotec because of the quality of the build and the design of the laser. It was far more advanced than any of the other options we looked at. The machine has been excellent from day one, even though it's seen heavy use from the pupils".

Support

"The aftercare has been fantastic. Trotec's engineering team are clearly all very knowledgeable and passionate about the lasers, so we feel comfortable that should we ever have a problem they'll be able to get it sorted quickly".

Easy to use

"The machine is so straight-forward to use. Even our youngest pupils are introduced to it and by the time they advance through the years we're anticipating them knowing more about it than us teachers do".

Highly recommended

"I would quite happily recommend Trotec Laser to any other educational institutions looking at investing in laser technology. Not only is the machine itself fantastic Trotec are a pleasure to deal with and their support is outstanding".

- Kevin Abel, Resistant Materials teacher, Dyffryn Taf School
